Michael "Klink" Klinkerfues is a 6:30pm regular who is pretty new to CrossFit Train, so take some time to read his Featured Member interview to get to know him better. Then make sure to meet him in person if you haven't already!
Name: Michael Klinkerfues (Klink)
Occupation: Information Technology Specialist (computer geek and proud of it!)
Age: 39
Dream WOD
I would actually say this was my favorite WOD, it was rough, but I had fun doing it.
Warmup (partners) row 200m, your partner tells you when to stop because the screen is facing away from you and land as close as you can to 200m, if you go over or under you do that many air squats, your partner rows next and you do that many burpees in place of the air squats. 5 rounds each person.
4 person partner WOD, each person at a station, the air bike is the trigger to switch stations.
Air Bike 20/15 Cals, Dumbell snatch, box jumps, rest (20 minutes) Count how many rounds.
Worst Workout?
Anything overhead squats
When and why did you start Crossfit?
I started Crossfit June 2015. It was recommended to me by a friend of mine that it would be a great way to get in better shape for the tough mudder race. I got addicted to it almost immediately. I do this now for me and no one else. Its my stress relief. No matter how bad of a day I have, its always better when I walk into the box and better still when I walk out after the WOD.
What do you like best about CrossFit?
Community. Everyone is welcome. You can scale down to meet everyone’s needs and see progression
What is your workout schedule, what class do you prefer?
At a minimum 3 days a week, but I aim for 5 or 6. I work in Newport but live in Corvallis, so I can only really make the 6:30 PM class. ( I am not a morning person) You’ll see me often on the weekends as well.
What is your most memorable CrossFit moment?
My First T2B. This only happened for the first time last week. A few years ago if you told me I would be doing this, I would have laughed at you and called you crazy.
Do you remember your first workout?
Yes, I couldn’t do a squat right, I had to be on my knees to do pushups and I couldn’t do a single normal sit-up. This was back in June 2015.
Any advice for anyone thinking about starting CrossFit?
Just show up. That is the hardest part. Be there at least 3 times a week and you will notice improvement, and you won’t be as sore as the first month.
What is the first thing you think about when you get up?
Coffee!
Describe your athletic background
In high school, I was in karate for years, and captain of the swim team. After that, I played golf. Never ran nothing until age 35 when I decided I needed to make a lifestyle change.
Tell us about your goals ( short term/Long term)
Short term are pretty easy, my first strict pullup, and 10 double-unders in a row ( 4 is the most right now I’m just about there)
Long term goal is to be in overall good enough physical health to climb Mt. Rainier, and Mt. Hood among other mountains in the area.
