Everyday Warrior Week 1

We will be doing the first EVERYDAY WARRIOR WOD today. You can still Sign-up!

No doubt, you've heard the chatter around the box about the upcoming BATTLE SERIES. Well, my friends, this is an event you should most certainly take part in.

You might be trying to decide if you should bother. And, certainly, there are many worthy charities you could support. But let's be honest. Cancer SUCKS. Plain and simple. It can change the course of somany lives in an instant. Its impact is far reaching and everlasting. Take it from me. At thirteen it took my mother. And, as you might imagine, my life has been defined by the experience and the loss.

I know I am not alone. This year close to 2 million people will be diagnosed with cancer.  For many of them, the financial burden of medical bills, co-pays, and deductibles coupled with the inability to work during treatment make it nearly impossible to focus on the fight at hand. EVERYDAY WARRIOR helps to ease, if not eliminate this financial burden.

Unlike many cancer-based charities, money raised by EVERYDAY WARRIOR goes directly to the individual or family affected by the disease and subsequent financial burden. This allows these individuals to spend funds however they see fit. Whether it's mortgage or car payments, buying groceries or simply breathing a littler easier each month.

The BATTLE SERIES is about donating and competing to make a difference for someone at a time when hey need it the most. Crossfit is community, a family, a group of people who are suffering and fighting together--whether it is during daily WOD, a challenge at work, or a struggle to live. Whatever your fight, isn't it a comfort to know you are not alone? So, come on my Train family. Let's step up, sign-up and make it happen!

Celebrate Southtown 2017

Celebrate Southtown 2017

by Rebecka Weinsteiger

I am super excited to share that an event I organize is coming up next week on Thursday, September 21st from 4:30-6:30 at Tunison Park (just up the street from the box). We call it Celebrate Southtown, because that is simply what it is – a family-friendly neighborhood celebration that brings people out to eat good food, engage with groups and business that make our hood awesome! Did I mention there is free food and free beer? Block 15 is serving brews and sliders, Tried and True will be there with coffee, Pappa’s Pizza and we were super lucky to score the Papuseria de Valle to attend(incredible El Salvadorian papusas).

I am hoping for good weather and I hope you can make it. I also need some help to make this event happen. I thought it would be super cool to have a team from the Crossfit Train family to help as alcohol monitors. These would be simple 1 hour shifts where you hang out and make sure people don’t leave with booze, and only those with a stamp or bracelet (we haven’t decided yet) should be drinking. We keep the beer situation pretty safe already by only distributing 2 drink tickets per person of age who wants them, but it is good to keep OLCC happy, and they would love to see some monitors.

Here is the link to sign-up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050a4aa5af2ca31-celebrate

If you haven’t already, tell the Facebook if you can make this event or not: https://www.facebook.com/events/597515583972268/

If you can’t help – that is okay, please stop by and check it out!

Thanks!

SWEET POTATO
BUFFALO CHICKEN
CASSEROLE

Recipe and Write-up taken from https://paleoleap.com/sweet-potato-buffalo-chicken-casserole/ all credit goes to PaleoLeap.com

Have you ever read one of those “casserole” recipes that call for a box of pasta, two cans of store-bought cream of mushroom soup, and half a container of Cheez Whiz?

This is not that one of those recipes. It’s just as convenient – dinner in one pot, no need to fuss with browning anything beforehand – but you can skip the pasta and the hyper-processed ingredients in favor of fresh, whole foods. And the spicy buffalo chicken taste is definitely a whole lot better than gloopy puddles of fake cheese and soup from a can.

If you don’t want so much heat in your dinner, you can always replace some or all of the hot sauce with BBQ sauce – go half-and-half to tone it down, or all-BBQ for a mellow, sweeter taste. Serve your masterpiece with a fresh side salad to balance the richness of the casserole, and dig in!

And then it is time to eat it!!!

This is a flavorful and simple dish that can be easily altered to your specific tastes and needs. Have at it and give it a try!
