The back squat requires the structures of the lower body and core to work synergistically to accomplish the task. Optimal performance requires an adequate range of motion at the ankles, hips, and knees; superior lower-body strength; and a tremendous amount of core stability. The front squat builds exactly off the mechanics of the air squat. All that is added is a load supported in the front rack position where the weight sits squarely on the upper chest and shoulders, and the elbows point forward to bring the upper arms parallel to the floor.
"The overhead squat is the ultimate core exercise and peerless in developing effective athletic movement. This functional gem trains for efficient transfer of energy from large to small body parts and improves functional flexibility. Similarly, it develops the squat by amplifying and cruelly punishing faults in posture, movement, and stability.

COMPETITION AT THE CROSSFIT GAMES

The 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games are held the week of July 28 through Aug. 4. The competition begins on Thursday, Aug. 1, with a field of National Champions, invited athletes from Sanctionals, and top finishers in the 2019 Open. 

The field of individuals begins with 148 men and 134 women. After the first event, the field cuts to 75 athletes and progressively narrows over the course of events to 50, 40, 30, 20, and then to the final 10 athletes.

The team competition will also narrow throughout the weekend. More information on the schedule and scoring will be released in the following weeks.
